Sleeps 6. Balcony with a fabulous view to the mountains. Châtel offers all summer sports, including tennis, mountain-biking, walking, swimming, archery, pony trekking and there is white water rafting within 10 miles and water-skiing on Lake Geneva within 20 miles. Who needs a beach or a pool?!
Châtel
The village has a children's centre which caters for children of all ages. Not far away near Evian is a wonderful Aqua Parc resort with Jungle Land, Cap'tain Kids and Paradise Land and Salt Mines to visit at Bex.
There is a weekly street market on Wednesdays which brings local produce to the market
Nearby is the ancient abbey of Abondance and a bit further afield there is a white water rafting centre. Also within easy reach is the spa town of Évian on the Lake of Geneva. This is a major holiday centre with water sports on the lake and also one of France's premier casinos.
For those who would like to go summer ski-ing, this can be found on the glaciers at Saas Fee and Les Diablerets. If conditions are right, the Tourist Office in Châtel organises trips there.
Châtel is on the French/Swiss border and the nearest Swiss village – Morgins – is only a couple of miles away. The major Swiss resort of Montreux is not far either.
For those who are really energetic, it is not far to Chamonix from where Mont Blanc can be climbed (but only by experts!).
The apartment
The sitting room
A large room, with one wall comprising a picture window, with a view to the mountains, which opens onto a balcony. This faces west so that it gets the afternoon and evening sun.
It is furnished in the Alpine style, with two sofas, one of which is a double sofa bed, other easy chairs, a dining table which can seat eight people, dining chairs, a dresser and bookcase and a TV/video, DVD player and a mini hi-fi set (which includes a CD and cassette tape player and a radio). The TV is dual standard so that it can receive both French and Swiss stations. There are about twenty English videos and also a substantial number of English and other language paperbacks. There are a number of board games, including chess, draughts and Monopoly with Paris streets and also jigsaws.
There is a bar/shelf behind which is the kitchen area where there is a cooker, sink, fridge, microwave oven and dishwasher.
The apartment does not have a telephone, but a mobile telephone with a French SIM card is available if required. It works on a pay-as-you-go basis and top-up cards can be purchased in the village.
Main bedroom
This has a double bed with a storage shelf, chest of drawers and other bedroom furniture.
Second bedroom
A large room with two single beds, a chest of drawers and a washbasin. It also has a small armchair which converts to a single bed which can be moved to the balcony. Our children enjoyed sleeping out there when they were older.Balcony
There is a pine table with two benches and some deck chairs on the balcony. On a summer evening, it can be very pleasant to have supper on the balcony in the sunshine.Car park
The apartment has one car park space allocated to it.Prices
From 300 EU per week Summer to 900 EU Winter depending on the period and the length of stay.Roughly that's between around £200 and £600 per week. A welcome pack, with practical information for tenants, will be sent out by the local letting agents, with the paperwork.
