We have two apartments in the same building: the Provencal Waterfront Penthouse, which is one bedroom, one bath, plus a sleeping mezzanine overlooking the sea front; and the Jewel-box Waterfront apartment (Le Petit Bijou) a one bedroom, one bath apartment. Both apartments have large balconies with panoramic views (180 degrees), from the cliffs that plunge down to the beach, all across the Bay and Cap Ferrat and out to the Mediterranean.
There is something special being on the waterfront and especially here in Villefranche sur Mer, just a few minutes from Nice.
From your private perch, you enjoy people watching, boat watching – the whole scene. It constantly changes. And it’s quiet. You hear the alternating sounds of the sea lapping the shore and the soft trickle of the lion fountain on the Place du Conseil, to the rear of the apartments.
APPARTMENTS FOR RENT (1-2 bedrooms)
Both of these apartments are located on the waterfront in the old town – a great position.
It is one of the most photographed buildings – on nearly every postcard. Just steps from the beach yet also steps from restaurants and shops but in a residential part of the old town where it is quiet. It is also very close and a lovely walk to the Institut Francais, the world renowned French language institute here in Villefranche which offers month-long immersion programs.
These two apartments are completely different in their decor. Yet both are equipped with the same level of comfort and luxury to enable you to relax and enjoy it. We are passionate about lighting and each apartment has beautiful lighting that is fun and romantic, plus excellent reading lights where you would expect them.
Each apartment has an office / desk space that is separate from the main living space (although close by). Each apartment is equipped with Internet wireless DSL, a fixed phone line, satellite TV, stereo (CD, radio, IPOD), DVD player, etc.
Our kitchens are designed for someone who loves to cook: they feature gas stoves, stone countertops, great knives and pots and pans, nice dinner and serving ware, quality cutlery, and all those little things you like to cook with.
Of course each apartment has laundry facilities, hair dryers, iron & board, etc.
RENTAL ACCOMMODATION (sleeps 2-4)
Apartment 1: Provencal Waterfront Penthouse
There is a queen sized bed in the bedroom, plus a double bed in the mezzanine. The beds are excellent quality, linen is all cotton and white, down duvets in the winter and cotton blankets in the summer, down and foam pillows on beds. Bedside tables and reading lights on both sides of beds. Excellent closet space. Bedroom has a lovely window overlooking the loveliest little square in the village called Place du Conseil. The bathroom, large, with a tub / shower combination, large sink with lots of counter and storage space, plus a mirrored vanity with great lighting. The bathroom also has a window overlooking the Place. Can sleep 4 but nicer if just for 2 with an occasional guest or a child.Apartment 2: Jewel-box Waterfront apartment (Le Petit Bijou)
Also has a queen sized bed in the bedroom, a double bed sofa bed in the living room. Although you can sleep 4, it is really for 2. The apartment is just so romantic you don’t want to share it with anyone else. The bed is fitted with the same high quality linen and blankets as the Penthouse. The bathroom is great with the “best view from the loo” we are told. Check it out. It’s hard to know where to start to talk about all that is interesting and worthwhile to do here in Villefranche sur Mer. Not to mention, just soaking up the lifestyle and not doing too much – just “living” here. Many of our returning guests, on the second trip, take it slower and enjoy just living here. It’s a nice lifestyle; a healthy lifestyle. You’ll go home feeling and looking better; the food and wine, the walking, the sunshine and fresh air.
But what we like is that a city as diverse, beautiful and interesting as Nice is just next door – 10 minutes away. There are so many interesting corners of Nice to explore, not to mention the numerous art museums, shops, markets, galleries, arts (opera and symphony don’t need translation – and reasonably priced), and restaurants. Going to Nice for lunch and a stroll around is a great pleasure. Then there is Monaco, just 15 minutes away. Then 30 minutes away, Antibes, Cannes, Italy. And medieval, hilltop villages galore: Eze, St. Paul de Vence, Gourdon, Grasse, La Turbie and hundreds more.
And walking – it is a great place for walks – many of the best walks are just outside your front door. Such as the coastal walk around Cap Ferrat – a 7 mile walk on the water’s edge, unbelievable views, spectacular villas, and the most amazing boats – all as part of the view of this great walk. And there are many more. It’s a place that supports a healthy lifestyle without having to try and be healthy. Eat and drink all you want – just walk to get there – which is a pleasure.
And lastly, the local culture is quite special. French, but also mixed up with Italian and other Mediterranean cultures. And a village culture with a more sophisticated culture around it – a nice mix. A day doesn’t pass where something occurs on the street that reminds me how special this place is, how privileged we are to be here, and how easy it is to feel at home.
It is hard to go wrong with any of the Cote d’Azur as it is all beautiful. Winter, Summer, Spring or Fall – every season has its great things to offer.
| Spring is full of flowers and wonderful scents, not to mention the festivals: Carnival, Flower, Citrus – all the villages and towns have something to offer to celebrate the arrival of Spring. And the Cote d'Azur energy starts to build. You see people starting to sun bathe, the beaches are active, there is excitement and happiness in the air. | Summer is the 'in' season for some. Certainly for families but also if you like summer. The sea is great to swim in, the beaches are a fun scene to participate in, the outdoor life is alive and plentiful and just plain fun. |
| Fall, or Autumn sees the serenity descends after the building energy of Spring and Summer and it is perhaps our best season – or at least us locals think that way. The beach and weather is still great – still summer weather, but the crowds have largely disappeared. You see the local culture emerge again. The great light emerges again and you enjoy great food and wine festivals. | Winter brings sunshine and warm weather when the rest of the northern hemisphere is having real winter weather, few crowds, lovely light, you can feel and observe the local culture more, it is a nice time for quiet and contemplative work and beautiful walks. Originally, the Riviera was a Winter holiday place and it still is. |
